Insights from an Intern: Vihnson Pham, Department of Film & Media Arts

June 30 2020

This is a series dedicated to highlighting the insights our students gained during their internships.

Name: Vihnson Pham, Department of Film & Media Arts

Internship: Utah Grizzlies, West Valley at the Maverick Center.  October 2019 through until April 2020.

What responsibilities did you have as an intern?

My main responsibilities were to run their social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) as well as film live hockey games, and edit them for social media. As well as any other task my manager might have (helping with promo, setting up activities etc.)

What new skills or knowledge did you gain from your internship?

I learned practice makes perfect, I also learned how to run social media platforms more efficiently, I also learned time management and working as a team to meet tight deadlines and making sure things run smoothly. I also learned that yeah, you can do things by yourself because usually I tend to be a one man show, I like things a certain way so I do things my way but I also learned to let others help, and asking for help when needed.

What connections did you make and how do you think those connections may help you in your career?

So far I've met the head of the department, and it's a little too early to tell, but soon I hope to meet higher executives and network my way into their film and social media department.

What advice would you give other students who are interested in a similar internship?

Any skill is a good skill. Im in my senior year and I just started this internship. Don't feel pressured if you don't get one right away. If you do, thats perfect! If not, don't sweat. If you do get a similar internship, go in with an open mind. I know this area of study can be competitive but everyone here is your team. Help each other and succeed together.
