See the Year’s Best Student Films at F&MAD Fest

September 11 2017

Sunday, September 17th the Department of Film & Media Arts will present the 7th annual F&MAD Film Festival, a showcase of student works from undergraduate and graduate film students at the U. Each year the Tower Theatre, 9th and 9th’s independent film hub, plays host to the festival. Show up ready to experience a collection of the best films of the 2016/2017 academic year, featuring a range of genres like experimental, documentary, narrative, animated, screendance, and beyond.

“The Department of Film & Media Arts is rich with inquisitive and diverse student voices and this festival is our opportunity to highlight and celebrate these artists in a public forum,” Says Kevin Hanson, Chair of the Department.
Each short film submission is under 25 minutes long, allowing the F&MAD Fest to show around 12 films per festival. For budding film makers, F&MAD Fest is an opportunity to show off their hard work among a community of film-lovers, and to vie for the title of “Best of Fest.”

F&MAD Program Coordinator, Paula Lee, says the most exciting aspect of the festival is the audience awards voting. “Everyone is chatting about what films they loved and why and it’s great to hear all the different perspectives. F&MAD has a real community buzz. A really vibrant atmosphere”

Curious to see a Best of Fest winner? The 2012 victor was Nightly Dates by Hans Glassman. You can watch the full film here.

Student Film Submissions are anonymously screened by a jury who cast the deciding votes on which films will make it to the big screen at the Tower. If selected, the student filmmakers will be notified and a lineup will be created. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy handpicked student films from the 2016/2017 academic year and to help decide which film will be Best of Fest 2017!
