The University of Utah’s Counseling Center (UCC) will host their third annual chalk art festival on Wednesday, September 10th & Thursday, September 11th from 11am–1pm at the A. Ray Olpin Student Union.
Every September, the UCC honors Suicide Prevention Awareness Month as a time to raise awareness of this topic, which is commonly stigmatized and often viewed as taboo. By utilizing the Union sidewalks as an artistic canvas, a tool for spreading positive messaging, and a space for self-expression, the UCC hopes to shift public perceptions of suicide prevention and share vital information to the U campus community. The overarching goal is to ensure that students, faculty, staff, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help should they need it.
This year’s festival, titled “Vibes of Hope,” will feature collaboration and support from the Union Programming Council (UPC), the Center for Campus Wellness (CCW), and the College of Fine Arts (CFA) – including several Department of Art & Art History undergraduate students who will be helping with the main installation. Participation is free and the UCC anticipates around 350-450 participants over the two days of the festival. T-shirts and drinks will be provided while supplies last.
