U & THE ARTS

University of Utah U Card

"I love having the Art Pass because I feel like I have gotten the opportunity to see more art because of it. I went to a modern dance concert in December, I went and saw "In The Heights" at PTC and went to multiple music concerts. Many of my friends have used it as well."

- Paul Hill

"The U & the Arts Pass is the proliferation of the arts and student produced art on our campus. It is just one of the finer examples of the student signature experience offered to any student who attends the U."

- Trevor Myrick

"I love the Arts Pass. I used to go to concerts anyway and pay the student price, but now that I can go to them for free, I go to more performances and a wider variety of performances than I have in the past. It has motivated me to go to events that I never would have considered attending before, and I have really enjoyed them. I think the Arts Pass is the best thing the U has done in a while."

- Meagan Thorup

"I love the Arts Pass program. As a student in the School of Music I use it all the time to go to concerts that my peers present. Also I have friends from other departments on campus that come to the shows I'm in. Without the Arts Pass program they probably wouldn't be as enthusiastic about attending. Any time a student hears free they pay attention. If I hear an event is eligible for the Arts Pass, immediately I'm more interested in going because money is no longer a factor. I've been able to take advantage of so much more at the U of U because I don't have to pick and choose which concerts or shows to attend. I can go to all of them!"

- Alexia Butler

"I am a doctoral student and I have used the Arts Pass several times. I think it is a wonderful tool and opportunity for students, considering the great amount of good shows and other works available at The University of Utah's general calendar. The Free Arts Pass makes possible for a greater number of students who otherwise couldn't afford to attend all activities. It also showcases all the areas of arts in the institution and contributes for the entertainment and critical thinking of the students in the University's highly demanding environment."

- Sidnei Alferes

"I have definitely used the Arts Pass! As an out-of-state student paying a large tuition, I save every penny I can, and the Arts Pass has enabled me to stay involved in the University community. As a dance major it is also important to me that I support my fellow fine arts majors and I am so happy to be able to see them perform and achieve their dreams.
My friends who are not fine arts majors also really appreciate the Arts Pass because as I am often in more than one concert per semester, they are able to come see all of my concerts. College students in general are always looking for ways to save while also experiencing their college years to the fullest, and the U Arts Pass give us this opportunity."

- Christine Crepeau

"Friends of mine who might never have been inclined or motivated to see my work or the work at PTC, relish at the opportunity of seeing various forms of exceptional theatre for absolutely no cost."

- Mike Brown

"I have definitely used my Arts Pass, for the Utah Ballet shows and some others. Many of my friends here at the university have also come to see the Ballet Department's shows and used their Arts Passes."

- Julianna Gardner

"Since its inception, the U & the Arts Program has had a profound impact on the arts on campus. The area with which I have the most experience is ballet (I am a ballet and exercise physiology major). It has increased attendance at our performances and has allowed me to support more of my peers in their artistic endeavors! I think the U & the Arts Program is wonderful and here are some of my thoughts on it!

The U & the Arts Program has dramatically helped to increase the visibility of the top rated arts programs at the University of Utah. It entices a wide variety of students, from first time audience members to avid arts patrons, to attend concerts, plays, ballets, and other performances, creating opportunities for them to expand and enrich their college experiences as well as their perspectives of the world. The U & the Arts Program has made the arts more accessible and affordable for students in addition to encouraging a thriving arts community on campus."

- Jessica Liu

"I love the arts pass! As a theatre major, I have to go to as many shows as possible so it is so nice to get free and discount tickets to basically everything! As a broke college student, I rely on it!!"

- Ali Rea

"I use my Arts Pass at least 10 times during each semester and it is wonderful. I love knowing that I I don't have to stress about seeing new shows and my friends perform because of being a poor college student. I think it is also very easy to use, which is a plus. I have only had one issue this last Fall when I went to buy a ticket and the cashiers at Kingsbury Hall said that my card was not activated, but it had been before. Other than that, I have not had any issues and I think the program is great."

- Bekka Days

" My name is Kelly O'Neill, I am a photography major, and I love the art passes. Being able to attend plays and modern dance recitals for free is amazing. Me and my roommates always go to the shows, which to be honest, we probably wouldn't attend if they weren't for free. I think they help give the students a little bit more "culture" by making it so easy to see all the things happening on campus."

- Kelly O'Neill

"As a performing member of the Ballet Department at the U, I am very thankful to have the Arts Pass Program. A free ticket means that all the rest of my starving-artist friends can come support me when I perform without having to forego something else; and I can do the same for them when they perform. I have noticed that our audiences are much larger since the Arts Pass was introduced, which makes performing all the more rewarding for me. I hope the program keeps going, I think it's a great thing to have on campus."

- Abigail Schwartz

"I use it all the time! I saw swan lake using my pass, and plan to see live to dance. I'm involved in orchestra and dance and I have a group of about ten friends who come to see all my shows! It's a wonderful idea to provide students with the arts pass."

- Chloe Holzman

"I use the Arts Pass program on a regular basis, both to visit the museum and attend student performances. As a student, it is usually hard to set money aside to go see student work, so the Arts Pass is pretty much the only thing that makes it doable. I've gone to a couple other schools that didn't have a similar program and even though I was involved in the Performing Arts there, I rarely attended performances unless it was for a class assignment. Now I go as often as I can and try to make more time to support my fellow students. All the performances I have seen have been great!

I've noticed that even though it does get mentioned a lot, many students are still unaware of how to use the Arts Pass, or they don't even know it exists. I think I also had some trouble initially figuring out where to go to get tickets and what I needed to do, but once I found the information it was really simple.

I feel like the Arts Pass program is really an asset to the school and has had a huge positive impact on my time at the University of Utah."

- Aubrey Vickers

"I absolutely use the arts pass! In fact my fiancé and I attend performances at PTC and the Marriott Center for Dance regularly. Thank you for making it available to us with opportunities for enhancing our college experience with class and culture."

- Adam Watkins

"Thanks to the U & the Arts Pass, I have not only been able to attend my fellow artists' screenings, exhibitions and performances across the College of Fine Arts, I have also inspired my friends to see these exciting innovations for free. These events serve as terrific outings, dates and conversation starters and, in general, are great experiences."

- Rachel Osterman

"My name is Kaylie Earl. I am a frequent attendee of a variety of fine arts performances! I have attended performances or the choral department, instrumental department, ballet and theatre departments! And to be honest, I would not be able to enjoy these as much as I do without the U fine arts pass. I LOVE the discounts! They make performances far more enjoyable, because they are affordable! Thank you!!"
