Fine Arts Honors Scholarships for Artistic Merit

The University of Utah recognizes that students with high artistic talent enrich the experiences of the greater university community. The Fine Arts Honors Scholarship for Artistic Merit program recognizes incoming freshmen students who through the audition and portfolio processes demonstrate high artistic merit and potential.

The Fine Arts Honors Scholarships for Artistic Merit awards for in-state students are $5,000 a year for up to 4 academic years or graduation, whichever comes first.

The Fine Arts Honors Scholarships for Artistic Merit awards for out-of-state students are full nonresident tuition - fees not included - up to and including 18 hours per semester for 4 academic years or graduation, whichever comes first.

In order to qualify for the Fine Arts Honors Scholarship for Artistic Merit, students must be:

  • Incoming freshmen, who demonstrate high artistic merit and potential in one of the Bachelor's degree areas within the College (Art, Ballet, Film, Modern Dance, Music or Theatre)
  • Admitted to the University of Utah, and if, applicable be accepted through audition in the College of Fine Arts' academic unit (Ballet, Modern Dance, Music, or Theatre's Actor Training Program or Musical Theatre Program)
  • Nominated by the faculty of the relevant College of Fine Arts' academic unit (Art, Ballet, Film, Modern Dance, Music or Theatre)

The Fine Arts Honors Scholarship for Artistic Merit requires that students who receive and accept this award:

  • Maintain full-time status at the University of Utah for Fall and Spring terms of the award, satisfactory progress toward their degree in the College of Fine Art degree, a 3.5 gpa in their major coursework and a cumulative 3.2 gpa at the University of Utah. At a minimum, students must complete at least 24 credit hours every two semesters, 20 of which must be graded.
  • Participate in the College of Fine Arts Sponsored Student Program, which will connect them with College of Fine Arts academic advisors and faculty mentors to help them to successfully navigate the University.
