SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship opportunities for you, as a College of Fine Arts undergraduate student, can be found in a number of offices at the University.

We encourage you to look for opportunities in your department or school, college, and university offices that offer scholarships for various majors.

 

CFA Undergraduate Scholarship Workshops

We invite you to join us for an Undergraduate Scholarship Workshop. In this workshop, we will provide information about key aspects of many scholarship processes: researching scholarships, writing a personal statement, and asking for letters of recommendations.  Our goal is to help you become a more competitive scholarship candidate.

College of Fine Arts Undergraduate Scholarships

  •  2013-2014 Fine Arts Advisory Board Scholarship – $1,500 -  deadline: February 22, 2013

Fine Arts Advisory Board Scholarships
The College of Fine Arts Advisory Board (FAAB) awards annual scholarships to Fine Art undergraduate majors who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen field. The FAAB Scholarship is $1,500, divided in equal payments and distributed in the fall and spring semesters. Scholarship Criteria:
  • Current, full-time declared undergraduate major in the College of Fine Arts
  • Junior or Senior status for the 2013-2014 academic year
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Completed FAAB Scholarship Application
  • Faculty evaluation (form attached)
  • Personal interview with the FAAB Scholarship Committee
Recipients of the FAAB Scholarship must maintain full-time status, a 3.0 GPA, and remain in good standing within their department. Scholarship Procedures: Application Due Date: Friday, February 22, 2013 before 5:00 pm
  • Submit your Application to your Fine Arts Major Department Office
NOTE: The Confidential Faculty Evaluation Form must be submitted by the faculty member in your Department Office by February 22 in order for the application to be complete. Scholarship Interviews: March 4-8, 2013 The FAAB Scholarship Committee will be conducting interviews between March 4 - 8, 2013. All finalists will need to make themselves available for a fifteen-minute interview during this time period. Finalists will be contacted by the Dean’s Office to schedule an interview. Marion Stiebel Siciliano Utah Fine Arts Institute Scholarships
The Utah Fine Arts Institute (UFAI) awards annual scholarships to promising undergraduate scholars in the College of Fine Arts. The UFAI scholarship is $2,000, divided in equal payments in fall and spring semesters. UFAI awards are intended to acknowledge excellence achieved by undergraduate students pursuing scholarly interests in the history, theory, and/or criticism of their arts discipline (such as art history, film criticism, dramaturgy, music theory, musicology, etc.). Scholarship Criteria: College of Fine Arts students studying in Bachelor’s of Arts (BA) programs in art history, film & media arts, theatre studies, and music are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in the College of Fine Arts
  • Applicants must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Applicants must have earned a minimum of 9 University of Utah semester credit hours at the upper-division level (i.e., 3000 or 4000 level courses) in their declared fine arts major
Recipients of the UFAI Scholarship must maintain full-time status, a 3.0 GPA, and remain in good standing within their department. Scholarship Procedures: Application Due Date: Friday, March 1, 2013 before 5:00 pm Submit a complete application to the College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office (ART 250)
  • Attach a one-page personal statement outlining your scholarly interests
  • Attach a sample of scholarly work (e.g. a paper submitted for a class, research organization, or professional association) of approximately ten double-spaced typed pages that includes an analytical, critical, historical, or theoretical component.
  • Attach a recent copy of your DARS report.
  • Include full contact information for two professorswho can attest to your scholarly accomplishments
    • one from a faculty member in your major
    • one from a faculty member outside your major

Emma Eccles Jones Fine Arts Scholarship House
The Emma Eccles Jones Fine Arts House offers undergraduate student artists from all of the College of Fine Arts disciplines a chance to live and learn from each other during a year of collaboration and new experiences.   If you would like to apply to be a resident of the Emma Eccles Jones Fine Arts House complete this application.

Recipients of the Emma Eccles Jones Fine Arts House Scholarship will receive $1,500 for the academic year ($750 in Fall Semester and $750 in Spring Semester).

Eligibility
Applicants must apply for Housing prior to applying to live in the EE Jones Fine Arts House.  In filling out the application, please indicate your interest in the Fine Arts House in the Living and Learning portion of the Housing application.    For information see: http://housing.utah.edu/applications/apply-reserve-housing.php
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must maintain that standard
  • Applicants must be full-time undergraduates in the College of Fine Arts in their sophomore, junior, or senior year. Incoming freshmen intending to major College of Fine Arts will also be considered.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of two semesters remaining before graduation.

Procedures
Applicants who have applied for Housing will be contacted directly by the College of Fine Arts through their Umail account.
Applicants will be asked to provide:
  • A signed application (can be electronically signed)
  • Personal scholarship essay
  • The name and contact information for two people who can serve as a reference for you. If you are currently living on campus, one of these people must be your current Resident Advisor.

Jack Lunt Prize
The Jack Lunt Prize is a $500 prize to help you with your summer study plans.
Criteria:
  • Undergraduate major in Art & Art History, Ballet, or Theatre
  • Study plans for the 2013 summer semester
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Procedure:
Application Deadline:  Friday, March 1, 2013 by 5:00 pm
  • Submit applications and essays to the College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office (ART Room 250)
  • Submit the application form & a one-page essay explaining how you plan to use the prize
