Velma is a Texan who absolutely adores the Utahan mountains! She is a graduate of BYU-Idaho where she earned a specially cultivated degree in Event Management. She also earned a certificate in Mechanical Design from Utah Valley University. She has a decade of experience between event management, project management, and administrative assistance, and favors most types of organizational work. Beyond her formal work life, Velma loves to try new recipes and to travel. She has diligently cultivated a rich personal life filled with her passion for creation; she is an award-winning costumer and artist who favors taking on challenging projects with a variety of makers methods and crafting involved. Some of her favorite skills are leather work, beadwork, sculpting, resin casting, cold-form metal working, rug hooking, and general sewing. She also runs an annual geek fashion show called the Geekbound Fashion Challenge to encourage budding designers to share what they are passionate about with the world.

Velma joined the Dean’s Office in the College of Fine Arts in May 2023, where she currently serves as a dual Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Dean for Finance & Operations and the Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs.
