Raymond Tymas-Jones, Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Vice President for the Arts, has formed a new philanthropy circle, “The Dean’s List.” The group’s inaugural event was a very special musical evening held last May at the home of arts leaders Amanda and Harris Simmons . The U’s acclaimed Graduate Vocal Quartet, accompanied by pianist Josh Wright, sang the great quartets from Rigoletto and La Boheme, as well as arrangements of jazz standards. After the performance guests enjoyed conversation and a spectacular dessert buffet.
The purposes of The Dean’s List are multifold: to develop College resources for scholarships and for enhancements to student learning such as visiting artists and faculty; to provide informal arts education opportunities to the donor community; and to build discerning and adventurous audiences for the visual and performing arts — and related fields — in Utah and beyond. Carolyn and Kem Gardner are honorary chairs of the new group.
The generosity of annual donors of $1,000 to the College of Fine Arts Fund for Excellence and/or to any of the College’s six departments will be recognized by opportunities to enjoy the full spectrum of the arts in intimate settings not available to the public. Examples include visits to residences and offices of collectors and arts patrons to view art or film or see performances, as well as tours of studios, galleries, museums, theaters, and other spaces for “behind-the-scenes” and after-hours opportunities to experience the work of the area’s best established and emerging artists.
Dean’s List donors also receive free admission for two to all student performances throughout the year.
Future events might occasionally be held outside Utah.
